In the Beginning
This is the first in a series of blogs that will be focused on God's Promises; learning them, trusting them, and developing a quick reliance upon them. As with most of my writing this journey was born of a need to know more of God's Promises and as previously stated to learn to trust in them more fully. While I dig, I like to share and "teach". It helps me to retain what I am learning and I hope it helps you too!
All things have a beginning. The bible says,
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1
It seems appropriate, then, to start a series on God's Promises with the greatest promise of all, Him, the One who started it all. The One who had the power to create all things, is the One who makes promises to us, His creation. He is the One who has the power to keep His Word and this makes Him infinitely trustworthy.
It is good news that we are not studying the promises of a United States President which, being the most powerful position held by any man on the planet, has an extremely poor record of being trustworthy. No, instead we are studying the promises made by the most trustworthy person in the universe, God. And, even better, He is able to accomplish His promises for He is omnipotent, omnipresent and all powerful.
"Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth. Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides." Psalm 119:88-90
"The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever." Isaiah 40:8
God even warns us to only trust in Him...
Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. Jeremiah 17:5-7
Therefore, as we move forward in this study of God's Promises let's be sure and remember that we are studying the promises of the One who is Trustworthy and True.
I'm excited to start this journey and I'm looking forward to what God has in store for us as we learn to trust Him more and more - "from faith to faith". Romans 1:17
Father, as I start this I am reminded that I cannot come to this trusting in my ability to understand. I need You to guide me and to show me the truth. Please provide me the promise of the Holy Spirit so that I can see your promises with spiritual understanding. I thank you for answering this prayer according to the Word of Your Son, Jesus who told us that we can trust that you are more willing to give good gifts to your children than our earthly fathers and the Holy Spirit is the greatest gift of all.
I love You. Amen.
